Popeyes(R) Chicken & Biscuits Pledges $2 Million to Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort
ATLANTA, Sept. 2 Popeyes(R) Chicken & Biscuits, a division of AFC Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq: AFCE), today announced the company and its franchise operators have made a commitment to support Hurricane Katrina relief efforts and to help rebuild the communities of the New Orleans area. The company and its franchisees have pledged a total of $2 million in support of Hurricane Katrina relief efforts including a $500,000 immediate cash donation to the American Red Cross. Another $500,000 will come in the form of relief to both Popeyes employees and others affected by this tragedy.
Additionally, Popeyes and its franchise operators have undertaken efforts to raise $1 million dollars through a national in-restaurant donation program for customers. Details can be found at all Popeyes restaurants nationwide in the coming weeks.
Kenneth Keymer, president of Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits stated: "Our hearts and prayers go out to the thousands of individuals and families whose lives have been shattered by Hurricane Katrina. We feel very deeply about what has happened to our friends and family, and we are committed to working with our community to rebuild the city of New Orleans."
