"A Regional Renaissance"
Sale Of Downtown Railyards A Done Deal
CBS13-Sacramento
The sale of the downtown railyards is now final.
Thomas Enterprises took possession of the 240-acre Union Pacific Railyards in downtown Sacramento Friday.
Mayor Fargo said that the project will set the standard for development.
“We’re on the verge of a regional renaissance,” said Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo. “Just as the railroad employed our people and shaped our future, this project, and in particular our new inter-modal transit facility will set the tone for smart growth into the next century. I want to thank Stan Thomas and his team who never let go of that dream.”
The deal involves Thomas' transfer of 8.8 acres of the property to the City of Sacramento including the Sacramento train depot, the surrounding parking lot and the existing rail corridor as planned. The City has also agreed to purchase 23 acres north of the existing tracks for a future rail corridor once an environmental impact report (EIR) is certified in 2007.
The City Council decision in favor of the deal was nearly unanimous with an 8-1 vote.
Sacramento City and Thomas Enterprises are planning a ceremony in January to celebrate the sale.
Once completed, the rail yards will contain entertainment venues, retail establishments, mixed-use, high-density housing, open space, riverfront access, parks, hotels and museums.

Parkside(Reuters) - Joe and Gavin Maloof, the Lebanese owners of the Sacramento Kings have reportedly tried to bribe Dan Silverboard, a prominent lawyer charged with overseeing their plans to redevelop downtown Sacramento's dilapidated Railyards. According to Jeff Oldham, legal expert for the Texas Center for the Ethical Treatment of Beavers, "Free court-side tickets for a lawyer with the power to approve of this massive billion-dollar redevelopment plan runs counter to the National Bar Association's Ethical standards. I mean c'mon! Silverboard ate 42 chicken wings, consumed 3 bottles of beer, and ate 2 gordito burritos during the game. At an NBA game, that's a tab of about $1,690.00. Silverboard should be disbarred and forced to clean the 3 ARCO arena toilets he defecated in." Silverboard was last seen leaving the game with Kobe Bryant, three under-age girls, and 2 bottles of Colt 45.

You can't trust that Texas Center for the Ethical Treatment of Beavers. They've said some nasty stuff about some new South Georgia developments. They were all in favor of the South Effingham County Mayonaise Recycling Center, but got their panties in a twist over the Camden County White Bread Conservation Outpost, even going so far as to claim its approval was tatamount to state-sponsored racism. I'm sorry, but we're not big into pumpernickel down here. Whole Wheat, yes. Dark German bread, no. Brown mustard, yes. Horseradish, yes. Mayo, of course. Pumpernickel, no!
I personally put more stock in the Texas Center for the Ethical Treatment of Hairy Brown and Blonde Beavers with Psychological Problems (The "TCETHBBPP"), which broke away from that darn Texas Center for the Ethical Treatment of Beavers a few years ago. Damn you, cursed Sliding Doors, Damn you!!!!!!
