London, Edgeware Road Tube Station Bombed
My predominantly Arab neighborhood in London was served by the Edgeware Road Station.
Makes me wonder if the bomb was about the G-8 or another friendly act on the part of Al-Queda.
London Explosions Kill at Least 33
Blair Calls Apparent Terror Attacks 'Barbaric' Acts
LONDON, July 7 -- Explosions rocked the transportation system across an arc of central London on Thursday morning, injuring more than 345 people and killing at least 33 with the numbers expected to rise, according to early reports.
Described by authorities as a coordinated terrorist attack, four separate blasts detonated without warning in subway carriages underground near three stations of London's subway system. Another tore apart a double-decker bus.
A series of explosions rocked the transportation system in central London Thursday morning, hitting at least half a dozen subway stations, trapping people in trains and blowing apart several double-decker buses.
Some people were injured by the impact. Others received burns. Many suffered smoke inhalation and bruises and bone breaks as they fled the tunnels or were rescued from them.
About 45 people were said to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
Several claims of responsibility followed during the day from groups saying they were connected with al Qaeda. None could be authenticated though experts interviewed agreed that the assault bore the hallmarks of an al Qaeda operation.
The explosions were close in timing. According to police, the first occurred at 8:51 a.m. local time (3:51 a.m. EDT) between the Moorgate and Liverpool Street stations of the London Underground on the northern edge of the central city. Seven died in that blast.
The second blast came five minutes later between the Kings Cross and Russell Square stations near the British Museum. Twenty-one people died there.
The third explosion detonated at 9:17 a.m. on a train entering the Edgware Road Station, just northwest of Hyde Park. That blast blew a hole in two other trains and claimed five lives.
The fourth, at 9:47, was on a double-decker bus near Tavistock Square in the Bloomsbury area of London. The number of fatalities there was uncertain.
